Dennis Kelley’s 1970 SS 396 Chevelle

It was a lucky find back in 1996.
Dennis Kelley was a brand new Club member and his first question of then club president Joe DeRossett was, "Do you have any leads on a 1970 SS?" Joe's answer was positive and he gave Dennis a couple of phone numbers.

Dennis eagerly made the first call only to be told, "I sold the car yesterday."

How many times have we all heard that?

Well, not to be deterred, Dennis dialed the second number and asked the big question: "Do you have a 1970 SS for sale?" The response was an astonishing, "Yes, I have three!"
Dennis's asked his next question: "Do you have a 4 speed car?" And the voice on the phone said, "Yes, I do."

Done deal!

This car is a frame-on restoration with a rebuilt 396 CI engine (actually a 402 CI to be technically correct). The M-20 4 speed transmission has also been rebuilt, along with just about everything else on the car. Dennis says that there is still more work to be done, some of those small jobs that just don't seem to get finished.

He also says that his SS "passes everything on the road, except the gas stations", and he just recently celebrated Earth Day by purchasing a tank of high octane fuel. Now that is something to celebrate.
