Chevelles & El Caminos on the Wharf (Bev & George)

Chevelles on the Wharf starts near San Jose and ends at the water. We’ll meet at 7:30 a.m. in the Ace Hardware parking lot in Los Gatos near Hwy 17 & Lark (15300 Los Gatos Blvd., Los Gatos) and leave from there around 7:45 a.m. (If you need gas, there’s a gas station right there, just not the high-octane stuff.) We’ll cruise beautiful Hwy 17 South and arrive at the Wharf at approx. 8:45 a.m. Once we park our cars, we’ll stroll on over to Ideal Bar & Grill, located right at the entrance of the Wharf (106 Beach Street), for breakfast. The restaurant opens at 9:00, and they don’t take reservations. First come, first served. They have a coffee bar and a great breakfast menu, with lots of patio dining with a great view. After a fun breakfast (and you know what we mean by that if you’ve been going on this cruise for the last few years), you’re free to wander around, take in the wonderful views and enjoy everything the Wharf has to offer. Your inner child will have a blast at the Beach Boardwalk. The Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary Exploration Center is right there (free admission!), where you can explore state-of-the-art displays, research discoveries, and interactive exhibits, and there’s the Jack O’Neill Lounge and restaurant Aquarius at the Dream Inn if you feel like enjoying a brew or glass of wine sometime in the afternoon with a million-dollar view. Or, if you choose, you can just chill with friends near our cars, surrounded by the beautiful blue ocean as your backdrop. Note: Last year, some of the members found a place near the end of the wharf for winetasting, but since Covid, they’ve changed their hours and don’t open until 2:00. Parking isn’t free on the wharf, but you pay when you leave at the end of your stay. Be sure to bring your folding chairs and jackets since we’ll probably be eating breakfast outside (although inside is also an option if you prefer).
