Steve Fox’s ’72 SS, “The Red Sled”

Have you ever wished you had the car that you had when you were back in high school or college? Well, that is what Nor-Cal member Steve Fox wished for - that 1972 SS Chevelle he had driven two decades ago.
Steve joined Nor-Cal, wanting to recapture those days of classic style, and began the search for his dream car. Steve had been talking to club members from his first day at a monthly meeting, and his search soon took him everywhere all over California and even out of the state.

Steve's search for his dream car lasted for months and he experienced several disappointments when he "just missed it" or the price was "a bit too high," but he never gave up. Finally came a Good Guys car show that began as a gloomy day with overcast skies. Clouds soon turned to rain and cars began leaving the show in droves. As happens all too often here in the busy Bay Area, there was soon a huge traffic jam that slowed the exodus to a crawl.

But .... a silver lining to those rain clouds! In the midst of that traffic jam Steve saw his dream car making its way slowly out of Good Guys show. He managed to get the attention of the driver and asked if he could see the car later that day. The rest, as they say, is history: a short discussion and a great offer is all it took and Steve was driving his own "catch me if you can red" big block 1972 SS Chevelle.
Steve's pride and joy has a 402 CI engine with a TH400 transmission and all the creature comforts, including AC.

Steve's SS is an original with matching numbers. It has 41,450 original miles, with original two-tone interior and paint. After some research, he found out that this special order car was originally delivered in California and it has stayed in the state ever since. His purchase was made on December 31, 2001, and was, he says, a great way to "ring in the New Year".

What a great story - thanks Steve for sharing it with us. You can see this great Chevelle, along with many others, cruising the roads of the Greater S.F. Bay Area. Steve says he plans to enter his California SS in up-coming car shows and cruises (and we hear he's looking for a lady copilot to help him navigate).
Catch him if you can!
